The Social Sciences faculty offers a wide range of courses across the school curriculum at St George Girls High School. The faculty promotes student centred and independent learning through group work, individual research, the use of technology and extra-curricular activities including state and national competitions.
Field work is used to supplement course content where appropriate. All Year 10 Geography students undertake fieldwork examining the issue of urban growth and decline in Kogarah. The faculty invites guest speakers on a range of topics and where possible Higher School Certificate students attend lecture days for their respective subjects.
The faculty strongly encourages students to participate in extra-curricular activities which enable them to utilise skills learnt in the classroom, compete against students on a national level and gain recognition for their achievements. The school enters teams in the ASX Sharemarket Competition (Commerce) and the Asia Wise Competition (Geography).
