Debating and public speaking two very popular activities at St George Girls High School. More than forty girls from years 7-12 participate in the Premier’s Debating Challenge Competition. There is also the Selective School’s competition, as well as workshops and study days run by various universities. In 2011 we won four out of six zone debating competitions. The English faculty also runs in school workshops and competitions for interested students.
In the area of public speaking we have also had great success. We compete in the Legacy competitions, the Lions Club and the Sydney Morning Herald Plain English Speaking Awards. In 2011 we had some stunning achievements, including girls reaching state finals. The English faculty also runs an extensive program in public speaking, including year competitions and informal lunchtime meetings.
